There, he’d have to deliver the gut-wrenching news of being cut from an Olympic team or world junior team. Or, worse, that some of the best players in the world weren’t even being invited to camps.
“You’re dealing with elite players that have probably never been cut before. Ever,” Pascall said. “Sometimes, they’re 17- and 18-year-old kids and they’ve been the best player on every team they’ve ever played on growing up.”

“Some guys are crushed,” Conroy said. “Some guys are pissed. Some guys are emotionally almost in tears or in tears. You have highs and lows of every guy. Some guys confront you right back. They disagree. Which is fine. But, in the end, these are the decisions we make. It’s not easy. It’s not my favourite part.
