Yup.
And I've heard through a couple different pretty credible sources it is actually one of the big issues. If Calgary expects to lock him up here long term, it's gonna take giving him the keys to the bank vault.
And to be honest, if what I heard is true, why wouldn't he demand it? If it is his dream to play elsewhere, why wouldn't he demand a kings ransom to settle for playing here? No matter what anyone thinks, Johnny holds cards not the Flames. He's a clean cut college educated kid, no dummy, and knows what he's worth.
IMO he's worth Stamkos money. He's going to put up similar, if not better numbers than him the next 5-6 years... why shouldn't he be compensated for it? The game is massively shifting where you don't have 8-9 guys on the team 33+, and even if I was a young scorer in my prime, considered to be a near generational talent, I'd be making demands too.
If I'm BT, my cap is going to be the Stamkos contract. If that doesn't get it done, trade him.
