I think if there was any appetite at all for a short term deal from Gaudreau's camp we would have heard some inkling of that by now. On the contrary, EVERY REPORT on this negotiation confirms that both sides are pursuing a long term deal. An insider who speaks to the agent or people close to the negotiation would have reported something else if this were true. So, no, I do not think it "meaningless" that there are only indications that both sides want a long term deal.
