What's ridiculous is Gaudreauvertime is trying to create this narrative that the fanbase on this forum are somehow anti-Johnny when in fact everyone on this site that is a flames fan wants Gaudreau signed for 7-8 years.
We all want the Flames to win the cup and hopefully a couple of cups. The last era got so close on a underdog run and never got close again. This will be the 4th full season since the rebuild began. Johnny has emerged as the next face of the franchise but is joined by Monahan, Bennett, Tkachuk, Brodie, Hamilton as the key pieces of the future. Management is going to need to keep those pieces together and add others to the mix (currently Gio, Backlund, Frolik, Brouwer, Elliott) in order to win.
Johnny has an interesting contract situation where he still has 5 years before he is a UFA, and can't be given an offer sheet. The flames owners also are known to be hardliners when CBA negotiations occur. It is reasonable to believe that due to those factors we will not be seeing an 8 year $64M contract even though many like me would be completely happy paying Johnny that money.
I like Gaudreauvertime people on this forum are using logic to deduce what a fair contract for Johnny would be. What is funny most people agree with where he ended up voting in the process. $7-7.5M for 8 years
