By re-signing with his current team at Yzerman's ask he basically waived his UFA leverage. He left money on the table to stay where he was comfortable.
The other thing is that he's already peaked offensively and is not quite the scoring machine he was a few years back.
Johnny's situation is different in that his most productive seasons are probably going to be the next 3.
