The argument could be made that Brodie, at the time of signing his deal, was not better than Gio. If he had signed the deal the next year it would look quite a bit different IMO.
It's not a good comparison. Forwards tend to make more money, regardless of who's more important.

Giordano is getting paid for some years where he is highly unlikely to still be a top player.
Gaudreau's contract will be all prime years.
That's a consideration that should supersede any talk of a Gio cap IMO.
