The Flames have a hole in their prospect pool due to getting Hamilton. Having no valid 1st round picks for 4 years (Nemisz, Erixon, Gormley, Baertschi) led to the mess where the Flames are digging out of now.
And who would you let go to accommodate the extra 9.5M? Buy out Gio? Trade Brodie and Backlund.

Almost every team in the league would happily part ways with 4 draft picks to have a player like Johnny. They'd find a way to fit him in. Just like Treliving should.
