I don't really know of any teachers who are the first ones to start whining about our jobs, or exclaiming that we're somehow special, but we don't work any less hard than anyone else. Yet, there is this thread specifically dedicated to whether or not teachers do, in fact, work hard... started by and mostly participated in by non-teachers.
There are no other professions (other than professional athlete) who get that treatment on this board. I mean, I can sum-up an Engineering degree in three sentences, but I'm not about to start crapping on the profession, or implying they aren't well compensated, or don't have unique stresses and pressures needing support from people who understand.
Basically, what I'm saying is, teachers like to whine about our lot to other teachers so when we do that on teacher-centric websites, don't get all bent out of shape about it.

To be fair, I'm not saying it's all teachers. I'm not. I think they are properly compensated in this province for what they do. More places should follow suit.
I just think not a lot of them have done jobs that are far more difficult and stressful my a massive factor, and don't have proper context. One of my friends sons a corrections officer in a max security prison. You want to talk about a tough crowd to work with.... He refuses to talk about his job, he's just seen so many terrible things. But he'll never, ever woe is me to anyone, not even his spouse. He knew what he was signing up for.
Whether you are complaining on a techer'centric website, or out in the open. It's still complaining, and still looking for more recognition. If that woman titled the article correctly, it should read. "I don't think you realize how important what I do is, and how special I really am."
I get it, you have an influencial job and I admire you for it. Do I need to tell you ever time I see you? Do you need that much attention?
