I would like to point out that this article was written for a teacher-focused website, and - while the style of it as an 'open letter to spouses' is overwrought, it's pretty clear the main focus of it is to provide support to other teachers.

I don't really know of any teachers who are the first ones to start whining about our jobs, or exclaiming that we're somehow special, but we don't work any less hard than anyone else. Yet, there is this thread specifically dedicated to whether or not teachers do, in fact, work hard... started by and mostly participated in by non-teachers.

There are no other professions (other than professional athlete) who get that treatment on this board. I mean, I can sum-up an Engineering degree in three sentences, but I'm not about to start crapping on the profession, or implying they aren't well compensated, or don't have unique stresses and pressures needing support from people who understand.

Basically, what I'm saying is, teachers like to whine about our lot to other teachers so when we do that on teacher-centric websites, don't get all bent out of shape about it.
