Ekblad would have been offersheet eligible and his contract has 4 UFA years instead of 3. So, like Tarasenko, that's pretty significant difference. Also, Ekblad signed a full year earlier (his contract doesn't kick in until after this season), which I'm not sure who that favours but it's a pretty big difference.

You mean Ekblad keeps a lot more (therefore can be paid less with the same end result). And Johnny has to be paid more. But that's the only factor IMO that works that way.
The other things again point to Johnny making less if you compare the two. But like I said, I'd be OK with the same contract.
