I didn't buy last year's so decided to try out NHL 17 through EA Access. I have to say, the gameplay was more impressive than I thought it would be. You can tell it's the same foundation but its been tuned up and refined. I like the pace of the game and all the loose pucks and bounces that happen. You can tell the same old goal scoring moves are there somewhere but they are harder to pull of as frequently. Seems to be way better variation in how goals occur. Also the goalies do seem much more realistic. Nice variety of modes now as well.
Still not sure if I'll play it enough to justify getting it right away at full price but it seems like a very solid game this year.
I really hope they freshen up the presentation a bit next year though, it starts to feel like the same old very quickly. I don't think they need those weird live commentary things at the beginning of games.
