You've kind of tried to re-frame the argument to suit your point. You are totally correct that the highest paid players at the moment are the big name UFAs...........not sure that was what the debate was though.
Lots of UFAs are now also having to take PTOs, small deals or are completely out of the league now, when previously they got paid well for past results. The league has shifted in the past few years hugely to pay for potential versus past results. No doubt the biggest name UFAs with tones of gas left get the biggest pay days, but the young RFAs predicted to the be the future are getting paid much better by clubs to lock them in based on future performance. Things have changed a lot in the RFA / UFA world recently.

No I didn't. Most of those guys just signed their deals in the last couple years. Kopi and Stamkos just signed this year to monster deals that ate up their UFA years.
