I think the Flames ownership messed this up big time. I worry we may not get a new building for a long time. Hopefully it doesnt cause some unwanted results.
The Edmonton building is awesome even if you think it looks funny. I dont think the average tax payer is outraged about the deal either.
Its embarassing that the Calgary Flames couldn't get this done. With the current economy and municpal and provincial budgets being stretched, there's going to be little appetite from the governments and taxpayers to put any miney into this. This could have been reasonably during better the past 10 years and we would have had a great building for hockey and entertainment.
Combine that with the disaster that McMahon is, its embarassing the facilities this city has. For ####s sake, Winnipeg has more modern buildings than Calgary.
