At this point, Johnny is IMO definitely a better player than Ekblad and has shown more progress from year 21 to 22 than Ekblad made from 18 to 19. And it's not just me saying that - Johnny was ranked as the 30th best player in the game vs 45th for Ekblad (NHL ranking). I don't think it's at all unlikely that Gaudreau is the better player more times than not over the next 8 years.

#1D are more valuable than #1 wingers. We personally watched the best winger of his generation win a grand total of three playoff rounds, and the best winger of this generation has never made it out of the 2nd round. Neither ever had what you would consider a true #1D.
Question, why would you discount Calder voting yet cite the NHL player rankings as though they mean anything?
