It does almost surprise me that if they are apart on money on a long term deal, then going for a 2 or 3 year bridge does make some sense. It gives both sides more certainty as to what he will be going forward.
If he did a 2 year bridge now, then he would have a 4 year sample to plan his next contract, which would still cover 3 RFA years.
If he is still a top 5 scorer for the next 2 years, I know I would feel better about committing 8 million + to him long term.
