“I’ve been through it myself,” said Giordano, 32, who signed a six-year, $40.5 million extension last fall.

“I didn’t sign until right before camp. Sometimes the back and forth gets dragged out a bit. You’re anxious to get it done — that’s how I was, but there is a process involved.”

“I know, as a friend of Johnny’s, I’m confident he’ll be done. There’s still time. I talk to him all the time through texts. He’s in a good mindset back home. Obviously as camp gets closer and closer the ball will get rolling even more.”

“As a friend and player I saw Mony go through it. There’s no doubt these are our two franchise players and the future of our team. I know everyone involved is still confident it will get done.

“Training camp is important this year,” said Giordano, who met with new coach Glen Gulutzan Monday morning.

“It’s going to go a long way towards getting familiar with the coaches and getting that new system in play. Any time I’ve been around when a new coaching staff comes in, there’s certain guys who are looking for a fresh start and other guys trying to prove themselves to a new set of eyes.

“Playing against (Elliott), I think he’s a really underrated guy. People don’t give him the credit he deserves. In St. Louis he was great last year. Looking at the numbers is one thing but the way he plays — his style. He’s going to help us out big time.”
