No. They're taking on $20 million in cap hit for those players but only actually paying out a fraction of that. Also, they received assets in return for taking on the bad contracts.
If that tweet from Lawton is accurate, and they're only paying $1.1 million of Bolland's salary, there's very little money coming out of pocket for that $20 million in cap hit.
Datsyuk: $7.5M cap / $0 paid
Pronger: $4.935M cap / $575,000 paid
Bolland: $5.5M cap / $1.1M paid
Vermette: $1.25M cap/paid (rather than $3.75M for full contract)
Ribeiro: $1.44M cap/paid (rather than $6M for full contract)
