I disagree. I think its a contrived, meaningless tournament designed for no other reason than to generate money for the NHL and the NHLPA. To compare it to the Olympics is silly. Olympic hockey will generate interest regardless of whether or not NHL players go. I honestly doubt coaches will be pining the loss of this tournament for four years.
