Do we even know if Gio or Brodie were offered the spot and turned it down? I doubt that would be the case with Brodie (right or wrong) but wouldn't shock me if Gio wasn't interested.
Plus on the Brodie front, he does make a lot of unforced errors due to higher risk plays, especially against quality opposition which will be all of this tournament. While the upside certainly outweighs the downside on this when it comes to Brodie, Team Canada isn't short of solid puck moving D-men who can generate offensive with a little less risk. A "safer" player like Bow might actually be the better move given the makeup of that D.
