To me, if "losing" is having the player blow up into an all-star/Norris candidate, I think I could live with that as a fan or GM. I get that they might have saved some money long term, but if there are doubts from management regarding the upside of a player, these prove it contracts are perfect.

Haven't expressed it in the Johnny thread, but I really don't mind a bridge for him as well. Prefer long term because I don't see too much risk, but if he is asking for a crazy number, perhaps the shorter term deal makes more sense.
