I was very lucky to marry into a Cape Breton family, and enjoy going East every summer. I realize you've already gone but if anyone else is going to Halifax and has a European background, Pier 21 is a great experience. I went on a tour and they talked about the European immigration and what the journey across the sea was like. I went into the records office and found a copy of my Grandparents and Mothers departure papers from the port of Southampton. Seeing my families names ... my Mom being written in as age 4... it was all pretty incredible.
I'll give another recommendation for Ingonish and Cape Breton in general. It's Canada's most incredible Island, the food people and scenery are second to none.
