Getting back to the premise, which if I understand it would be a player who is a pending UFA, figures he's worth more than the team is offering, gets traded for a good return, doesn't pan out and then lingers on the UFA market or doesn't even get a contract, there's only a few possibilities: the goalies, Wideman, Smid, Engelland and Bollig.
Of those, who is going to be looking for a raise? Not Wideman or Smid. I suppose if Engelland or Bollig improve they might get an inflated sense of self-worth and the Russell scenario could happen. That would be win-win for the Flames because I don't really think the Flames need either player and could use a Treliving/wizard return. I guess I could see Johnson playing well, wanting a longer term and not getting it because of Gillies.
