I'm not convinced this is true. Otherwise I think we would see an inordinate ratio of the highest paid players in the league on Canadian team rosters. When Gaudreau is eventually signed I expect that his contract value will appear in line with those players to whom he is most closely comparable: in this case that player is Tarasenko.
