It seems to me that a correlation between men who work and are married could be easily explained by the fact that they have more desirable personality traits, or could be less prone to risk-taking behaviour (i.e. it's safer to be married). I don't think it necessarily proves that the decline in social pressure is what's responsible for the economic disparity between married men and single men.
