Of course, "close" can be interpreted in a number of ways, and the fine points of a complex negotiation can quite often take the longest to sew up. Quite to the contrary, when players and teams are indeed at great odds on matters of term and dollars this information is frequently reported in the media, and there has been nothing at all posited this summer of there being any significant distance between sides in this negotiation.
