I'm sure someone else will have the time to refute the above better than I this afternoon, but you've listed some contracts which were very team friendly. I wouldn't call those "paid". In the case of Brodie in particular, "bargain" would be the better tag.
EDIT: And its been said, but that this is in the media is only because Burke was in the media yesterday. Also, those posters that talked about setting a deadline, are spot on. That's exactly what that was about even if the deadline isn't really until he has to report for duties with the Flames.
