I went through one of those clickbait articles on the shabby state of some post olympic venues and it's crimnal what a waste of money those countries spent on 2 weeks of entertainment.
The 88 games provided venues that are stil in use, and are still helping develop our olympic athletes, that's pretty cool.

Some countries certainly get into the Olympics business as a front for corruption and as such have no real use or plan for the venues after the games. I think Brazil is partially in that boat, Sochi as well.
