This is sort of the opposite of what you're asking, but I think now the new NHL is passing him by and he'll never get a chance at a cup. I feel if he'd signed with better teams for 1 year each he'd have better stats which would allow him to play longer. Instead, he's floundering in a broken system in Colorado, and this coming year may be his last. I bet that if he was able to sign a 1 year deal with Chicago on July 1 this year for limited money, he'd have great success and his stats would skyrocket. He might even have gotten another contract for '17-'18. Instead, he'll get 30 points on a bad Avalanche team.
You know for fact that Chicago, LA and Pittsburgh were falling over themselves to sign Iggy?

Iggy signed with likely the only team who offered him a fair deal. Lucky for him, it was multi-year. The year he left the Pens, they said they would have loved to keep him around, but it didn't make sense with the cap situation. Same with the Bruins.

And like others have said, the Avs looked really good that year.
