Yeah you can't beat the WiiU for kids gaming, especially if you can find a used one for cheaper.

For that young you might look into a 2DS as well, robust, pretty inexpensive, and lots of games both new and old in their online store.

I usually end up having all consoles from a generation (though I still don't have a PS4), but if I had to limit it I'd probably go with a PS4 and a Nintendo handheld.
