Bettman is just acting on behalf of his employers.
It is my understanding that thee players case basically hinges exclusively on the notion that the NHL knew the link, and withheld that information. So the owners stance, that Bettman continues with, is they still aren't convinced of the link. That's what makes Daly's comments in the email chain troublesome for the league.
The NFL took a different approach, and say they now know there is a link, but did not know earlier. It will be interesting to see if one strategy is more effective, as these court cases continue and finally conclude.
