I don't think he is close at all. He scored 12 points last year, for an offensive defenceman. He needs at least a full season in the AHL putting up at least over 0.50 ppg before he should even seriously be considered a legitimate top 6 candidate.

Karlsson spent only 12 games in the AHL, but that was because he put up 11 points in that time frame.

There's no rush at all for Kylington. He's 19 years old. Give the kid some time. He's playing the most difficult position and it took Brodie years to finally make it. Shouldn't be any different for Kylington.
My biggest concern with Kylington is the fact that he's pretty lean and lacking in strength still. Unless he packs on some muscle over the summer, I can't see him having a realistic shot at making the Flames this season.
