Pacing is really important for fun. I would not recommend seeing a film that has bad pacing for fun. Too slow is boring, too fast feels like nothing. Much too fast you can't even follow.

Of course the right pace is highly subjective. Kind of like spicyness. (Pacing can also mean a lot of things.) Still, that kind of stuff is the critics job, and sometimes pacing is a problem.

I would agree that pacing was certainly one of the weak spots of Suicide Squad, although I think it's mostly a side effect of the film just having too much stuff in it. (Too many backstories, too much plot, too many characters etc.)

Btw, I'm pretty sure the biggest problems with the movie are at the production level. I don't think the actual filmmakers for example had much choice in how many characters they had to put in the movie. It needed to have all of the squad, even though that's too many characters to establish in one movie. Then it probably needed to have Batman, and set up future Batman films. Then it needed to have a prominent role for Joker. At this point you have spent half the running time of the movie on backstories and introduction scenes.

What they should have done is the Marvel thing. Harley Quinn / Joker backstory at the very least should have been it's own movie. Deadshot could have been it's own movie. They could have experimented by making a Katana film deliberately aimed for the Asian market.

Marvel built it's film empire with much more patience.
