We all loved the Hip and thought it was too good to be true, and brushed it off as a cover band. None of us had cellphones with internet capabilities back then (and still had PCs instead of laptops) so it wasn't the easiest to confirm.

We start drinking early in the afternoon and kept saying to ourselves, "What if it is them, we'll regret it forever". We decided we can't take that chance and head over to the bar.

Sure enough in front of like 300-400 people it's the actual band. Still to this day I can't fathom why they were wasting their time playing Portland, Maine in a small venue. Must have been trying to make some in roads in the US.

Similar story ..... I saw them in a bar in Tempe, standing 6 feet away because no one else knew who they were. This was at the peak of their fame in Canada (not counting the current tour)
