Rewatched Watchmen last night. It's starting to become pretty apparent what the problem is for DC so far: Zach Snyder has too much control.

The Watchmen worked great, but the Watchmen is also a parody of comic books. It's a disjointed and dystopian story meant to show how comic book characters would actually work in a more realistic world. The violence is over the top, because it's meant to show how absurd the idea of a comic book good guy is. If you had someone with superpowers or extreme martial arts knowledge punching bad guys it would be a gory blood bath. Batman and Superman's costume would be drenched in blood after every fight.

I was also wondering if Zach Snyder, despite putting a great portrayal of the Watchmen on screen, really got the subject matter. Did he understand that when the Night Owl snaps someone's arm or when Dr. Mahattan vaporizes an enemy that was supposed to be parody of the light-hearted way comic book movies were treating battles? He seems to be just applying the same methods to non-parody comic book material as if he doesn't.
