I absolutely agree with you that Palin was an indefensible choice. But I don't agree that that error, which was probably foisted on him by the RNC who were panicking about a fresh, exciting, news-grabbing Democratic candidate running against their stodgy old white guy as much as his idea, is "unforgivable" and you can never hold a positive opinion of the guy as a result. There is too much of this notion right now that unless a politician ticks every box and does nothing that pisses you off, they're basically Stalin. There are lots of Republican politicians who I disagree with on major issues, but who I think are well-intentioned and would probably be capable leaders even if I hope they lose. McCain is one of those.

Incidentally, I think his refusal to withdraw support for Trump is equally indefensible.
