We're arguably still in the middle/near the end of our rebuild right now.

They will all be in the prime of their careers. That's not even considering some of our prospects who should be making an impact in the NHL in 5 years.
There is no way in hell I sign Johnny to a 4 year deal, I max him out, even if it means throwing $7.5MM at him. He's going to be a 90-100pt player pretty soon  |
Well by then you are resigning bennett, tkachuk, brodie, hamilton et al and he is probably assuming Gio isn't worth his contract which has a good chance to be correct. In other words more likely a window closing due to salary.
