It looks like they came to a stop pretty close to the end of the runway; I wonder if they had trouble climbing (for whatever reason) and concluded that since they were virtually out of runway anyhow, they might as well try reducing drag to assist the climb?
Oops...you mean landing-gear doors are high-drag?
