JETS OUT FLY DUCKS

JETS 2 DUCKS 1 OT
The Winnipeg Jets opened the season vs the Ducks and thanks to great goaltending from Kevin Weekes, who was traded after the game, the Jets won 2-1 in OT on a goal by Radislav Suchy.
The Ducks opened the scoring when Curtis Brown was sent in alone, on a great pass from Rene Bourque. Brown out waited Weekes and put a backend just under the cross bar to give the Ducks the lead.
The Jets didn't get on the board until early in the 2nd period when Scott Mellanby banged home a rebound past MA Fleury. It was Mellanbys first goal as a Jet and it was a power play goal. Fleury made a left pad save off of Vladimir Orszagh, the puck went right to Mellanbys stick and he made no mistake.
In the 3rd, the game then turned into a defensive battle with just 9 shots on goal between the 2 teams. In overtime, Ducks forward Ryan Kesler took a minor penalty for Elbowing and the Jets went to work. Suchy scored on a rocket over the glove of Fleury after the Jets passed the puck around very well. Jan Hrdina sent a cross ice pass to Mellanby who faked a shot then dished it back to the point, where Suchy was waiting and hammered it home.
The Jets needed to win after a shaky preseason, it looks like maybe the sim friendly Jets are back.
Game Stars:
1. Weekes
2. Brown
3. Mellanby
Jets unsung hero of the game: forward Denis Arkhipov, for playing just 1 minute of the game tonight.
