No, because the Alberta government operates the balancing pool these PPA deals originate from. So by cancelling the contracts, these energy companies are handing the entire mess right back to the government. Which means that we taxpayers are eating the entire cost of phasing out coal when the NDP obviously expected private industry would be the one to bear the burden.
