It also puts the Flames in a bit of a jam re the Gaudreau negotiations, cap wise.

How are Monahan's interests served by jamming the Flames' negotiations with Gaudreau and the salary cap? I would imagine that for both Gaudreau and Monahan the other player's long term status is of considerable importance.
