Romulan and Klingon tech was relatively similar back in the day so I guess you could go either/or upon first glance of Discovery. I guess it kind of looks like an old Warbird.
I was Thinking an old D-7 which Romulans also shared the same technology. Just straighten out the warp nacels and bam, the Hull of Discovery.
K'tinga looks closer though.
Still think it is a massive deviation from traditional star fleet looks. But then again I've never delved into Phase II either. Still, for someone whos watched the series all their lives, it sticks out a bit.
