I relocated one last summer. It was in a birdhouse, mind, and relatively easy to move after buying a bee hat, putting on my rubber raincoat/pants and dish gloves, and duct-taping shut every possible seam - but they continued to thrive after being moved ~20-feet away from my patio.
It turned out to be totally unnecessary to protect myself, the bees didn't even
seem to know they'd moved the following morning.
