I would think the only way to be sure is to reset it back to a modem/router, and try using that for a bit. Then bridge it again.
Honestly you may get better performance with the built in than an older router like that. I think the Hiltron supports AC too. So if you have any devices that have AC (not just N) you will see a good jump in performance.
The other option is to go to Staples or Best Buy and get a good router and try with that. If still no improvement you can bring it back.
