You are right. Debating the correct accurate and precise use of words is not semantics, but a semantic debate. I can totally appreciate the significance of that difference.
More seriously however, you seem to (quite often) forget that words also have connotations, which are actually more relevant in everyday communication than technical meaning.
Everyday language is not by its nature precise and accurate, nor is it even that desirable.
