Totally. It's like West Ed in Edmonton - teens and tourists love it, locals avoid it like the plague. Even in my office, the people who seem to buy into Stampede the most and get all western'd up are transplants from eastern Canada.
Seeing the new acts or whatever is fun (or hitting up the Cowboys tent if you're single and still of a certain age), but in terms of just walking the grounds & whatnot, I think us locals kinda see it as being "out on time served" in that regard.
