Like them? Maybe not, but pretty much every Western nation has backed Erdogan now, including the US and UK. Whether they still back him after he goes on his likely rampage against the opposition we'll see, but for now he basically has their backing and that's all he needs to pull things like this off. I do wonder if we might see some kind of civil war in Turkey with the non-Islamist's fighting off what will likely be an attempt at further reducing secularism.

Edit: Also obvious this list of judges to go after wasn't just drawn up after the coup started, he already had the list made up, maybe even long ago. Another suggestion that Erdogan was behind this whole thing to consolidate power. He seems to have this all pretty well planned out.
