Estimates have the opening weekend box office coming in at $40-45 million, which is obviously not an outright bomb, but far, far below what Sony was banking on when they greenlit the project in hopes of a billion dollar tent pole franchise.

The mediocre domestic take as well as the movie not being released in China pretty much seals the deal that this movie will likely lose Sony $ on the project unless it has unheard of repeat business or legs at the ticket gate. Neither of those scenarios are likely and we may be headed towards a 1 and done attempt to reboot the franchise here.
