That's a big advantage of leaving a bit of cap room to cover bonuses so that you aren't paying in the next year when you are one step closer to being rebuilt. The Oilers have it all wrong; they'll be paying cap room for bonuses when they really need to be signing veterans to complete the rebuild (if they ever get there).

The Oilers do have $8.3 million in cap space this year, so wouldn't their bonus's be counted this year?
