Here is a
list (looks to be from 2014) that shows the top 12 endorsement earnings by NHL players; all 12 from US markets.
Sid the Kid is the leader and and the only one with a marketing strategy "Johnny Hockey" style.
McDavid was getting $250k / year as a junior from CCM and they upped that to 1M / yr for the next 5 years.
You would argue that the star of Team USA would not make more in endorsements in NY, Boston, Philly or Chicago than in Calgary?
