Some early takeaways from the first period here:

- Culkin made a really bad play to start off the scrimmage, coming out from behind the net and turning the puck over in front of McDonald. Not smart. Ollas Mattson made pretty much the same mistake a couple minutes later.

- McDonald made a good save off this chance.

- Ollas Mattson had some issues with puck control early on, misplaying the puck in his own zone.

- Spencer Foo opened the scoring early on with a highlight-reel goal early on, dancing around Rittich to make it 1-0 team McDonald.

- Ollas Mattson displayed some silky moves in his one zone, spinning smoothly away from a defender.

- Tim Harrison has a good backhand! He came very close to knotting the score at one, firing a backhand shot from the hashmarks that flew over Mason McDonald's shoulder and clipped the crossbar.

- Janko made a TERRIBLE giveaway ten minutes in... gave the puck right to Linus Lindstrom while attempting to do a behind-the-back pass... Lindstrom had a 2-on-0 break, was stopped low glove by Mason McDonald.

- Nice shot by Rempal to tie it up at 1. Right over McDonald's shoulder.

- Not liking Culkin's decision making today.

- Phillips made a really, really nice move to get around Andersson, who's still moving really slowly today.

- Has it ever been said that Kylington is a really good skater? Because guys, Kylington's a really good skater.

- Brett Pollock showed some nice hands and finesse on a couple of rushes in the first. First time's he's stood out to me in my two days here.

- Austin Carroll had a couple of good chances to beat Rittich midway through the second. He was stopped on a breakaway, and hit the crossbar shortly after.

- Rittich was having some trouble seeing the puck... shortly after the Carroll chances, a point shot came by with I don't think Rittich even saw. It hit the post.

- Adam Ollas Mattsson has been the most impressive defenseman today, for sure. Has made a bunch of great offensive and defensive plays. He's a surprisingly smooth skater and puck mover.

- Tuulola roofed one on Rittich to make it 2-1 McDonald.

- Brett Pollock had a good chance a few seconds later... he aimed high glove on McDonald, who got a piece of it with his glove.
